Back to enthusiasm: an incursion into survival strategies, with Rose Marie Barrientos

Tuesday, 17 November, 18:30–20:00 · INDECIS Artist Run, Bastion 3, Timișoara

We begin with Back to Enthusiasm (2011), the work by Ghenadie Popescu presented in Tired Mass, and ask what happens when resources become scarce and the usual solutions no longer work.

Rose Marie Barrientos will introduce us to the story behind the work and to the survival practice that Ghenadie brings into the present. From there, we will work together and imagine our own strategies for uncertain times: what resources do we already have, what can we learn from one another, and what other ways of living might emerge from scarcity, adaptation and resourcefulness?

Rose Marie Barrientos is an independent researcher in art history and argumentation theory, working at the intersection of art and economics. Her research looks at how artistic practices engage with economic issues and uses argumentation theory as a tool for analysing and interpreting art. She is a co-founder of Art&Flux and holds a PhD in multimodal argumentation from the University of Windsor. She is currently based in Timișoara.

Back to Enthusiasm: Survival strategies is part of the mediation programme accompanying the exhibition TIRED MASS. Throughout the exhibition, we are organising a series of encounters and activities centred on three forms of labour that most of us perform, even when we do not always recognise them as such: physical, intellectual and emotional labour.
