The Secret Garden is continuing our Making Zines series with a new workshop that takes you through the entire process of creating a zine: from the initial idea and first pages to folding, assembling and reproducing the final publication.
Zines are independent publications produced in small editions, often by the same people who write, draw, design and assemble them. They can take many forms and don’t require a publisher or a large budget.
A Botanical Zine Workshop
Plants, textures, images and paper become the starting point for exploring print techniques and DIY publishing.
At PLANTS + PRINT, we’ll experiment with collage, drawing, photocopying, stencils and other reproduction techniques to create our own zines inspired by the plant world. We’ll combine shapes, colours, textures and images, transforming our observations of plants into small artist publications.
What will you learn?
You’ll discover simple ways of making and assembling a zine while experimenting with different printing and composition techniques, including collage, drawing, photocopying, stencils and combinations of these methods.
Who can take part?
The workshop is open to anyone interested in experimenting with images, paper and DIY publishing, regardless of age or previous experience with drawing, printmaking or zines.
What should you bring?
Just your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. We’ll provide all the materials you need.
What will you take home?
A zine created during the workshop, made from your own original work and experiments.
